If you’ve ever wondered what it would feel like to drive upside-down, read our exclusive interview with Michael Mack, who has just designed the world’s first looping go-kart track.
Michael “Mad Man” Mack is the CEO of HeineMack GmbH and LoonyLoop Group in Nuremberg, which are owned by him and his family. (No relation to the Mack Family of MackRides and Europa Park.) He previously developed the Rollercoaster Restaurant, which had been implemented in Europa-Park, Sochi-Park in Russia, and Alton Towers Resort in the U.K.
Mack recently granted us this English-language interview about his company’s newest development, the Mack Maniac looping go-kart track.
When did development begin on the Mack Maniac system?
The idea came to my mind a year ago. Since then we are developing the product and registered the technology for patent approval.
What was the initial inspiration for Mack Maniac?
I originally developed the idea of a new type of theme park. Carmusement offers car drivers the opportunity to drive through theme parks in their own car and be able to ride carousels, ferris wheels and rollercoasters in them. For this purpose, cars use single gondolas, which are adaptable to all rides. The car drives on the specially designed transport platform of the gondola where it will be secured and put onto the desired ride or Ferris wheel.

At Shanghaî Disneyland, Toy Box Café, located in Toy Story Land opens today, bringing to SDL guests an early taste of Toy Story Land, and just in time to bring more restaurant capacity to the park for the expected crowds coming for the Chinese new year happening Feb 15. The location was existing at SDL opening but it has been entirely re-themed. Here is the full SDL press release.
Shanghai, February 9, 2018 – Toy Box Café, the first experience to open at the new Disney-Pixar Toy Story Land, welcomes its first official guests today, giving guests a taste of big toy fun as they dine on freshly inspired meals and beverages themed to the hit Disney-Pixar animated “Toy Story” film series. According to a report at ThemeParks-EU, the "I Corsari" dark ride at Gardaland is getting a major refurbishment for the 2018 season that will include new 3D video projection mapping technology and an all new soundtrack. Going along with this, the ride will reopen in 2018 as "The Corsairs: The Revenge of the Ghost".

So what does Thorpe Park have planned for 2018? According to a press release from the park, 2018 will be "The Year of The Walking Dead, a series of unmissable events throughout the 2018 season from when the theme park re-opens on 23rd March".
This will include "The Walking Dead Living Nightmare Extreme", a walk-through live-action maze) from May 25 through June 3, special Summer late night operations, Zombie Hunt (an extreme battle in the woodland on the outskirts of the resort from July 21 to Sept 3, and Fright Nights will return with a The Walking Dead theme from Oct. 5 through Oct. 31.
They say more special announcements will be coming in the future, but I've heard a new rumor that seems to tie into all this as well. Apparently the park filed some construction permits to change the entrance to their X: No Way Out coaster, and according to our source the codename "X:/NWO WD" was seen mentioned in the paperwork. Could this mean we will see a special "X: No Way Out - The Walking Dead" come to life in 2018?

Kennywood has confirmed the news just a couple hours ago... Thomas Town is coming to the park for 2018. You can see the official website here.
(2/6/18) Apparently a little something leaked out of Kennywood over the weekend... and was then quickly removed or locked away, but the gist of it was that the new kiddie area that Parque Reunidos mentioned was on the way for 2018 will be a Thomas Town, themed after Thomas the Tank Engine. Fortunately Google remembers all and a cache-memory version was captured, which you can see, lists the rides featured here as: Olde Kennywood Railroad, Cranky's Drop Tower, Harold's Helicopters, Fireflighting Flynn and The Convoy, along with a Discover Thomas show, Sodor Play Zone & Gift Shop and a Thomas Town Party Pavilion.
They list this as an $8.5 million expansion that guests will enter near the Pagoda Restaurant and centered around the "park's 85-year-old train area."

Screamscape has been informed that Walibi Holland has hired Rocky Mountain Construction to transform the park’s Robin Hood wooden coaster (Vekoma) into a new hybrid coaster creation for the 2019 season. Robin Hood will remain open for the 2018 season however, but expect it to close in the fall.

Legoland Florida has announced that The Great Lego Race coaster featuring the new VR headgear enhancement will open to the public on March 23rd.

New concept art and details from the soon to open Warner Bros. Adu Dhabi indoor theme park have been posted to BlooLoop this week, showing off two of the park’s themed lands: Metropolis and Cartoon Junction.
Metropolis seems like it will have some great attractions hidden inside the skyscraper filled landscape. There will be “Superman 360: Battle for Metropolis”, which in the artwork looks like guests will stand in the center of a 360 screen and watch Superman save Metrolpolis from an battle an invasion of Brainiac robots. “Justice Leage: Warworld Attacks” will be an intense dark ride experience with projection media and special effects that looks like it could offer a similar experience to Universal’s Spider-Man and Transformers dark ride. Then there is “Green Lantern: Galactic Odyssey”, a 4D Flying Theater attraction. Other attractions include the Teen Titans Training Academy multi-level play structure.
Meanwhile the main attractions of Cartoon Junction will be the “Tom and Jerry Swiss Cheese Spin” dark spinning coaster and “Scooby-Doo Museum of Mysteries”, a new trackless dark ride experience where the guests tag along with with Scooby and the gang as they try to solve their latest mystery. Other attraction here will include the ACME Factory with three kiddie rides (Daffy’s Jet-Propelled Pogo Stick, Tweety’s Wild Wockets and Richchet Racin’ with Taz), a Cartoon Junction Carousel, a Bugs and Daffy character meet and greet area and “Ani-Mayhem”, “an interactive ride that takes passengers on a rollicking mission to deliver their own cartoon chaos”.

The world’s first-ever Warner Bros. branded indoor theme park opens later this year in Abu Dhabi, and we now have our first look at attractions starring Superman, Scooby-Doo, and other cartoon characters featured in two of Warner Bros World’s six themed lands.
Metropolis and Cartoon Junction are the first two lands inside Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi whose signature rides, entertainment and restaurants have been unveiled to the public. When it debuts to the public in summer 2018 on Yas Island, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi will feature a total of 29 rides, attractions and live shows across six lands, which will include Metropolis, Gotham City, Cartoon Junction, Bedrock, Dynamite Gulch, and Warner Bros. Plaza. As guests walk through the iconic Warner Bros. shield, they will enter a world where DC Super Heroes like Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman fight for justice, and animated stars like Bugs Bunny, Wile E. Coyote and Scooby-Doo come to life.

You probably know that France and Paris had heavy snow falls the last three days and this of course include snow at Disneyland Paris. A LOT of snow, may be more than the park ever had, and cast-members did their best so the show could go on, and guests even had a parade at the end of the afternoon!
