According to a Screamscape source, the plans to update the Paris version of Tower of Terror into a Guardians of the Galaxy themed ride have indeed been dropped. For the time being, it will remain as-is... but is it said that the park does intend to update the ride with some sort of new theme at some point in the future that could be an entirely new and custom creation.

Last month it was reported that all the extra Kraken VR gear was removed from the coaster trains and signs put up informing guests that the VR version of the ride was not available for the time being. This is despite the fact that a large shade structure had just been installed over the brake run to keep those riders more comfortable due to the longer than normal loading times that came along with Kraken VR. Despite the fact that the warning sign made the removal sound temporary, all the extra hardware that was added to the trains was removed without a trace, making this look like a more permanent change.
While I can’t say if Kraken VR is gone for good or not, I did hear a good story about WHY it was removed. Bottom line... it seems insurance companies became involved and the park was made to remove the VR gear. Despite running on the ride for about 8-9 months, a few issues came up with the mounting hardware added to the trains that needed to be dealt with. Along the way it was discovered that no engineering firm had ever “signed off” on the mounting system being approved for use on the coaster, and certainly not B&M themselves who had nothing to do with it.
You see, unlike other VR installations on most coasters that just headgear on the riders, Kraken VR was done with the intent of hardwiring most of the gear to the train itself to try and speed up the load/unload process. But unsanctioned mounting hardware would put the park at fault if something bad were to happen, like a mount failing and the VR gear flying off mid-ride, and now you can see why the park's insurance company has became involved. End result... No more Kraken VR. For the time being at least...

Confirming the rumor Screamscape posted earlier this month, Thorpe Park has confirmed that "The Walking Dead: The Ride" is coming this Spring as a replacement for the former X: No Way Out coaster. According to statements from the park, they will combine real physical effects with new digital effects to mix with the special effects lighting and even scent effects to create a new terrifying experience. Even more curious... they state that the overall experience still isn't over when you've gotten off the ride, so hopefully there will be some sort of walk-through scare-house component at the end.

Oopsie... according to a report at Theme Park University the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit coaster valleyed at about 2:30pm yesterday. For those not in the know, while this is a rare thing to happen, it is also not all that uncommon either, as some coasters, depending on their design, are more prone to this kind of issue, especially in the colder months, especially if a good gust of wind blows from the right direction. I'm sure Universal will get things back up and running in the next day or so.

BlooLoop reports that Walt Disney World's own government, the Reedy Creek Improvement District has signed an agreement with Origis Energy to build a new solar energy farm for the resort, just West of Disney's Magnolia and Palm golf courses. This would actually be the second solar farm on property, as they have a small 9-hectare site built in the shape of Mickey Mouse, but this new solar farm would be almost 10 times that size and provide far more energy.
