In 1984 Alton Towers opened a new indoor roller coaster known as the Black Hole. The ride would then continue to operate at the theme park until 2005. In this video I take a look back at the history of this Alton Towers classic, along with sharing my memories from riding the Black Hole. I also take a look at the ride now and see how it compares to when it operated at Alton Towers!
This video is part of our Remembering Rides series here on Theme Park Worldwide. In this series of videos I'll be talking all about a variety of rides, attractions and theme parks that are no longer with us. I'll also be looking into the history of these attractions along with sharing my favourite memories!

Following in with new government guidelines, Universal Studios Singapore will be temporarily closed starting Monday, April 6, 2020 through to Monday, May 4, 2020 along with other Resorts World attractions (S.E.A. Aquarium and Adventure Cove Waterpark and Dolphin Island).
The new heightened restrictions in Singapore for four weeks will also shut down all schools and child-care centers, include recommended stay-at-home orders, and a suspension of all non-essential businesses including attractions, museums and casinos. These new orders come after the Singapore government has seen a recent rise in new Coronavirus infections. The previous efforts had seemed to be keeping their numbers low until now but they felt it was time to put out the new heightened restrictions to limit the new rise.

A local Twitter user passed by Fantasy Island and posted a picture showing that the park spinning mouse coaster has already been removed. As I had mentioned last week, I was told that the coaster would be sent to another Apex property. While I don’t know which one for sure, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it show up at the Big Kahunas waterpark in Florida, as it has a small section of dry upcharge attractions already (Mini Golf, Skycoaster, Booster, etc..) If not there, then maybe at one of the larger Boomers FECs with extra space.

I’m not quite sure about what all is involved, but Blackpool Pleasure Beach is said to be launching a number of virtual theme park experiences to help everyone enjoy the park while they are kept at home. This will start with the launch of a virtual “ICON” experience on Saturday the 4th of April at 4pm local time. Look for the details and links to appear on the park’s social media pages: Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

The Atlantis resort soon won't be the only waterpark attraction on Nassau in the Bahamas. The Baha Mar resort, located about a 20 minute drive west of the Atlantis resort is currently building a $300 million expansion to the resort that will include a new waterpark attraction along with other entertainment offerings and improvements to the beachfront resort.
According to a local news update, the waterpark expansion is still on track to open in 2021, despite the current issues around the globe from the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently the resort is closed due to government orders, and the shutdown does include a pause in the construction on the project. Currently the attractions in the Bahamas are hoping to reopen around May 15 or as soon as the their government says it is safe to do so.
