This was entirely unexpected, but Disney has announced that the original Soarin’ ride film (aka: Soarin’ Over California) will return to the Disney California Adventure park where it first launched for a limited time from June 1st through June 30th. You never know, if it proves more popular than the new Soarin’ Around The World ridefilm that replaced it, it could stay even longer.
Honestly, that would be fine with me… as I enjoyed something about the original Soarin’ attraction so much more than the Around The World version, which added in a few too many strange (and forced) GCI elements to the footage. And to be honest, I think the footage shot for the California version is of a superior quality, especially when compared to the strange screen/lens warpage that happens during the Eiffel Tower sequence in the World version.
So why bring back the original Soarin to DCA? The timing can’t be a coinsidnece, as this will run during the first month Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge operation at Disneyland across the promenade, giving guests who are unable to get into Galaxy’s Edge or those who have come out a reason to park-hop over to DCA and see something else special and help balance the crowd loads between the two parks. If this works, who knows… Disney might be inclined to break out some other DCA exclusives, like the Halloween event edition of Guardians of the Galaxy - “Monsters After Dark” which has proved to be another fun alternative version that could definitely lure guests to park-hop.

Construction walls are up all at the Walt Disney Studios Paris theme park to prepare for the construction of a new Marvel hero themed land. A good collection of photos showing off the area as it looks now with all the new walls blocking off the buildings can be seen at WDWNT, with only Rock ‘n Roller Coaster still open at the end of the street, and even that is set to close by this September.

The latest Disney Parks Blog mentions that at this year’s D23 Expo in Anaheim they will show off more of the planned transformation coming to Epcot. This includes a look at a new “core” area, sitting behind Spaceship Earth, which will feature ‘new areas’ on other side of Spaceship Earth. They will also unveil some new attraction pavilion icons to represent some newer attractions in Future World such as the play-pavilion and the new Guardians of the Galaxy coaster. Plus new details about other new and upgraded attraction features on the way.

Just a warning, but the first VIP / Media guests have passed through Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and the embargo lifted, so there is a ton of Galaxy’s Edge content out there for everyone to enjoy. I’ll post a few good ones for you all to enjoy, but if you don’t want any spoilers, then don’t play the videos! You’ve been warned.
Go inside Savi’s Workshop where you can build your own lightsaber. I’m told that you have to pay about $200.00 up front before you are allowed into this “shop”, but inside is essentially an experience where you are guided in the creation process to build the saber that fits your personality. Fortunately you can watch the video below and see what your $200 will get you ahead of time.

SeaWorld Orlando just dropped a bit of a bomb on us all with a surprise teaser about the park’s 2020 project, which has long been rumored to be a new coaster. We’ve been thinking for a while that it would likely be another Jet Ski themed launched rescue coaster like the one they added to the Texas park last year.
But after watching this teaser, I’m having second thoughts about all that… this one seems to have a very cold arctic theme to it, gives the impression that it could have a launch, and mentions “plunging thrills” and “predatory heights” while giving a good impersonation of an Assassin’s Creed style dive from the top of an arctic cliff to the icy waters below.
As I previously mentioned, our sources had mentioned that this summer was expected to be the last for the park’s Wild Arctic attraction, along with the rumor while the animal exhibit may stay, the simulator attraction space could be repurposed to be used for some of the 2020 coaster. Maybe just a themed queue… maybe a station… maybe even some icy caverns and a launch tunnel perhaps? We shall soon see…
I suppose the next question is to wonder who might be building this coaster for SeaWorld. The one company who is most likely not behind it is B&M, the company who built Kraken, Manta and Mako for SeaWorld Orlando, as B&M already has a confirmed coaster going to SeaWorld San Diego in 2020. With Intamin said to be behind the next two coasters opening at Universal Orlando (Hagrid and the Jurassic one now starting construction) I’m not so sure they might be behind this one at SeaWorld. While there are still many other possibilities the best two could be either Premier Rides or Mack Rides. Premier has just finished building their third launched coaster for the company with the opening of Tigris at Busch Gardens Tampa, while Mack Rides was selected to build the launched family coaster version of Mantis at SeaWorld San Diego. Mack Rides is no stranger to the SeaWorld parks however, as they also built all three of the Journey To Atlantis attractions and just finished a track rebuild of the San Diego version that just reopened this week. Long Shot… maybe Zierer, who was behind the Verbolten coaster at Busch Gardens Tampa which features launches as well as a themed freefall track. Zierer was also behind the two Shamu Express family coasters but hasn’t built a coaster for the company since Verbolten opened in 2012.
