Good news for Star Tours fans at Disneyland. According to this article, Disney Imagineers have dispelled the rumor that after Star Wars: Galaxy Edge opens they planned to retire the Star Tours attraction in Tomorrowland. The new land is set entirely in the later years of the Star Wars film franchise, where the Rebels battle the First Order, while the Star Tours attraction in Tomorrowland is set more in the era of the previous six films… though Disney did add a few locations and events from the modern films into the randomizer as well.
While nothing lasts forever at Disneyland… for now, Star Tours is staying put.

While there are those who will rush to some of the first guests into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, there are many aspects of the new land that are now expected to be ready in time for the grand opening, much like the First Order attraction, and some features are simply being kept in reserve until the crowds dissipate enough to allow for things like actual droids to roam the pathways of the Black Spire Outpost and interact with guests. While there is something to be said for being one of the first… that clearly doesn’t mean you will get the full experience as Galaxy’s Edge is intended to be a living breathing spaceport with many adventures to be experienced. Lets take a quick look at what else is expected to come to Galaxy’s Edgein the not too distant future.

Our friends at Attractions Magazine got invited to go behind the construction walls at Universal Orlando to get the best view we have seen yet of the new Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure ride… which was also testing right in front of them. They also managed to score a very detailed photo of the coaster trains in action, minus the water test-dummies, where we can now clearly see the different style of lap-bar restraints being used on the bike seats and the sidecar seats.
This is a very different restraint system than the one Intamin used on their Mick Doohan Motocoaster ride in Australia which mainly held the riders in with the use of a restraint bar that would push-up against the rider’s back… not unlike what Disney uses on their Tron coaster in Shanghai Disneyland. Instead this system seems to use a narrow T-bar shaped traditional restraint system on the sidecar rider and a more beefy gut/lapbar on a T-bar for the motorcycle rider that will box them it around the shaped seatback.
No word yet on how accommodating these lapbars are going to be for the bigger riders out there, and Intamin isn’t known for being the most accommodating manufacturer either, so we’ll have to wait until actual riders are put in the seats (or test seats) to know more.
In the meantime, Universal did release a new post on their Blog revealing seven new details about the attraction. The lists includes the confirmed number of launches at 7… making this have more launches than any other coaster in the world. They also confirmed the freefall drop effect that will drop riders 17-feet down at one point during the attraction. Make the leap to check our all the new details released.

That was quick… the very next day after we reported that the Ratatouille ride in Paris was still showing the various scenes in 2D, we have now heard from two guests that everything was switched back to regular 3D once again.
(5/21/19) According to a reader who visited Walt Disney Studios Paris this week and loved the 2D version of the Ratatouille dark ride. They did ask about why the ride was playing in 2D now instead of 3D and were given the excuse that it was just undergoing maintenance and would eventually return to using 3D projections. Of course this could have just been the line the CMs were told to give guests, or it could be that Disney is just conducting a guest satisfaction study to see if guests enjoy the ride more without 3D glasses than with, as they are preparing to launch the new version at Epcot in Walt Disney World.
Time will tell if the Paris version says 2D or returns to being in 3D.
