Join us as we head to Blackpool Pleasure Beach to start the 2019 UK theme park season! Along with taking a look at all of the changes across Pleasure Beach, we also share a mix of on and off ride footage from some of our favourite attractions across the park.
The sun was shining as we experienced ICON, Valhalla, The Big Dipper and many more of our favourite rides at the park. Some rides did have reliability issues throughout the day, however we still had a fantastic time with great company and as always it was great to see so many great friends and fans of the channel!
Wow weekends run up until the end of March with discounted wristbands available to purchase from the Blackpool Pleasure Beach website. We look forward to returning in two weeks time to film another vlog and experience the rides we didn't get chance to do today.

SeaWorld San Diego’s SkyRide shut down in mid ride earlier this week after a freak wind storm blasted through the area, trapping 16 riders in mid-span from about 7pm to 11pm. From what I’ve heard the ride shut down when a safety sensor was tripped as a section of the ride’s cable had came out of the the groove on one of the sheaves (the wheel like things at the top of the towers that guide the cable), rolling inward and striking the sensor.
As the SkyRide was my old stomping ground when I worked at the park, I can tell you normally if the ride shut down for any kind of reason, if the safety sensors rechecked as being good you could still pull the cars slowly around the course via a backup gas-powered VW motor, but since the cable was blown off course in an unsafe area, the only means left was to call in the rescue teams who go out via boat to the ride’s two towers, climb about 90 feet up the ladder to the top and with climbing gear, they have to go out over the cables to each car, enter, and rig up a rescue system to lower each guest individually down to a waiting boat below. I’ve seen it done myself when I worked there, as we did test rehearsal drills with the fire department.
The ride also features a constant wind monitor that sends information to the operators in the station, and will sound an alarm if it gets over a certain speed, with different speeds set for each direction that if I recall, ranged anywhere from 14 to 28 mph. Unfortunately, the word I’ve been hearing is that a sudden gust sprung up out of nowhere with reported speeds up to 50 to 60 mph that rocked one of the cars as it was going over a tower and caused the cable to roll off and hit the sensor. By about 11:15 all 16 riders have been safely lowered back to the surface.
I’d expect the SkyRide to be closed for a bit to repair any cable issues, as well as undergo all new inspections and safety certifications, but everything appears to have worked exactly as designed, keeping everyone safe and sound. It sounds like the freak wind blast affected all areas of the city, as riders on a hot air balloon ride at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park also were caught off guard in mid flight and given a bit of a scare.

Disney announced some fascinating new items coming to Epcot in the near future just a little bit ago. The news included the confirmation that a new “First-of-its Kind” Play Pavilion attraction was coming and would inhabit the inside of the former Wonders of Life pavilion in Future World. The new pavilion will be devoted to “playful fun and feature an innovative city that’ll come to life”, “bursting with interactive experiences, your favorite Disney characters, hands-on activities and engaging entertainment”. Look for it to open to guests in time for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World.
Disney confirmed that the entrance plaza to Epcot will soon be remodeled. The revised entrance plaza will be themed into a lush area with sweeping green spaces, new pathways and a reimagined fountain that will “pay homage to the original park entrance with fresh takes on classic elements”.
As long rumored, the Leave A Legacy monuments will be removed from this area, however Disney will not scrap them, instead they will be moved into a new beautiful setting just outside the park’s gateway.

One of our readers sent in a graphic they created using Google Maps and scaling out the size of the Super Nintendo World project area under construction in Japan, they overlaid it at the same scale over the current site clearing on the lower lot at Universal Studios Hollywood and determined that it seems to be a near perfect match in term of size.
While we don’t know for sure that the new construction site next to Transformers is for Super Nintendo World or not, it looks like this project will be kicking into high gear very soon as a tower crane has now been assembled on site which seems to indicate that the new structure going in here will be quite large.

After a lengthy period of leaks that latest information to leak out regarding the mega coaster planned for Busch Gardens Williamsburg in 2020 paints an impressive picture. Since 2017 the coaster has been referred to on internal documents as “Project Madrid” and BGWFans have been on the forefront of digging up all the latest and greatest information on this project.
From what they are reporting the plan is now simply for a new coaster, and will not include include a new land theme to “Spain” or anything. (Or at least not right now, you never know, they could add stuff around the ride in a future project…) If you scroll down on their project update you’ll see their best guess as to the coaster’s layout, based on the location of the various footers marked on a project map. Based on this guess-work, the coaster appears to have an initial launch section near the start of the ride, and then an interesting second launch zone in mid ride that appears to use a rapid track switch system that will activiate after the train passes into the launch area to ‘switch’ so that the train will hit some kind of hill without enough speed to make it over, roll-back through the launch zone again, over the switch and backwards up a large spike track for a brief freefall moment before plunging down again into the launch zone a third time where it will get the full boost needed to make up over and over that large hill or top-hat element. From there will come the biggest drop of the entire ride, as the train will plunge from it’s highest point down the cliff edge of the Rhine River for a near-brush with the water’s edge before before climbing back up the cliff to complete the rest of the ride’s high-speed layout.
Intamin is making almost the exact same style mid-ride shuttle-launch zone for a project announced for Parc Asterix in 2021, and actually starts off the Soaring With Dragon coaster in China with this same style launch system concept too. With that in mind, I’m guessing this also adds more credit the rumor from last fall that indicated that Intamin was behind this new coaster as well.

A quick update on the Mad Mouse that is being removed from Joyland Amusement Park this week. According to the local news, the park did confirm that the Mad Mouse was sold to a new owner and instead of being scrapped, it “will go on to live at another amusement park.” No hints were given as to the new home of the Mad Mouse at this time but before it ran at Joyland in Texas from 1976 to 2018, it was also the Mad Mouse for the former Bell’s Amusment Park where it opened in 1959, so it will be nice to see this classic Allan Herschell Mad Mouse alive and kicking in a new home somewhere.

In the background of these pictures on Twitter shot from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter area, you can see a massive attraction building rising up over the trees that is part of the new Super Nintendo World land under construction at Universal Studios Japan. While it is quite visible right now, I would think that they’ll add some kind of themeing to the exterior on this side to make it blend in better with the Wizarding World.

While I don’t know the timeline, guests at SeaWorld Orlando report that Infinity Falls has closed for a winter rehab. Even though the ride has only been open a few months, all the water rides in the area typically close for some maintenance work in the cold winter months to maintain their uptime in the hotter months of the year.

How many days until Star Wars: Galalxy’s Edge opens? How long? When? Tell us when already!
This is the question on everyone’s mind, including the competition as it seems no one want sto announced anything or to try and hold their own grand-opening event anywhere near the date when Disney is going to open Star Wars. Case in point… this is likely still the major reason why Universal has yet to release any details or even the name of the new Wizarding World coaster opening in Islands of Adventure this year.
The whining of the fans is almost deafening at this point… as people want to make vacation plans (or call in sick) in order to descend in mass upon the Disneyland Resort, all to jump in an epic line that could very well set length records for all time. Clearly this is going to be a nightmare scenario for the Operations crew at Disneyland and they know it… but what if there was a way around all this opening day fuss?
What if… Disney did the unthinkable?
What if Disney defied all modern theme park marketing strategies and went old school on this one? By this I mean, what if one day guests entered Disneyland and without any hoopla or celebration, without any pomp and circumstance… what if the gates to Galaxy’s Edge were just suddenly OPEN?!
In this day of social media it wouldn’t take long for the word to get out to the public that the portal to Galaxy’s Edge was now open, but it sure would solve the operational and security headache caused by the announcement of an official grand opening date. And invitational media previews could be done in private ahead of time, possibly with a strict publication embargo if need be.
This may just be a wild idea… but it could also be something that Bob Iger may have hinted about during a shareholder meeting when he confirmed that Disney doesn’t have any big promotional plans in the works, because the new Star Wars lands are already the talk of the world. He even joked that, “I’m thinking that maybe I should just tweet, ‘It’s opening,’ and that will be enough.” followed by the comment that since the attractions themselves will do all the marketing for them, “That’s a signal I just sent to our parks and resorts people to keep that budget really low.”
