Tivoli Gardens will invest about €13.5 million for the 2019 season as part of a ride replacement program. From what I’m told, several of the park’s oldest rides are slated to be replaced with newer versions. Included in the mix are a new generation of Bumper Cars, the park’s Odinexpressen (powered Mack family coaster) will be replaced by a new general Mack powered family coaster called “Mælkevejen”, which translates to “Milky Way”. The park is also adding a Zierer Force Zero called Karavanen which will replace the existing Camel Trail coaster. The park’s Fatamorgana tower ride will also be a bit more thrilling in 2019 as a new “tilting” action is being added. A few more changes and upgrades can also be expected, and you can get a complete rundown posted over at Themeparks-EU this week.

According to Behind The Thrills, the Shamu Express kiddie coaster at SeaWorld San Antonio is closing down to make way for a new experience. Well… kinda. While the park hasn’t released the details, the thought is that they will likely keep the coaster and retheme the trains to have a new Sesame Street character theme, much like what they are doing in Orlando where that park’s Shamu Express is becoming Super Grover’s Box Car Derby. It makes sense to do this in Texas as well, as the coaster is located smack in the middle of a Sesame Street themed kiddie play area mixed in with other rides themed to Sesame Street characters.

Bomber Maxx, a traveling ride that was making the rounds in France, said to be a Fabbri Booster, failed in spectacular fashion when an explosion of sparks errupted out of the center axis of the ride, as caught on video in the Tweet below. A helicopter was called in to aid in the rescue of the riders from the top half of the ride on New Year’s Eve. I believe a firefighter / rescue worker was lifted up to the top of the ride by the helicopter, where he then rigged up a harness system to help lower the riders down one at a time to waiting rescue crews below on cranes.

While we know 2019 is all about the new Tidal Twister ride, SeaWorld San Diego will also be celebrating the park’s 55th anniversary celebration that year with an assortment of other enhancements. According to a report at BehindTheThrills, this will include a special Celebration Weekend event from Mar. 21-24, new enhancements to the Rescue Plaza, special pass member events, upgrades to the entrance plaza to make security checks go more smoothly, a Sesame Street 50th Birthday Parade in the summer and an upgraded Electric Ocean sky show involving light-up drones in the sky over the park. For the last item, they say they are talking to Intel about it, who you might remember worked on other similar shows in Las Vegas and even Walt Disney World at one point, and they are calling it the BrilliantSea Sky Show.

The big news from Orlando today was that Disney purchased a 965 acre plot of land just south-east of Celebration for a cool $23 million. The area has been vacant and up for sale for a long time, known locally as the BK Ranch site. The big question is, what is Disney going to do with it? The answer isn’t quite as exciting as you think, since this is located on the other side of I-4 from the rest of Walt Disney World.
Rumor has it that Disney may be planning to the addition of this huge property to their own in order to simply leave it alone as a natural space as part of the ongoing land-swap game they have to play in Florida that requires a certain amount of land to be left untouched or used for “water management needs” for every acre that is developed. On the bright side, this also means that Disney is looking forward with long-term planning that will involve significant future growth within the existing Walt Disney World property. This isn’t the first time Disney has done this in Florida however, as it was just 2014 when they purchased a 3,000 acre site next to Walt Disney World known as Mira Lago that had been previously ear-marked for a housing project that failed to materialize. Instead Disney planned to restore the wetlands and natural landscape in exchange for being able to develop more of their previously existing property.
So who knows… with more land purchased, perhaps they are even thinking far ahead into the future at the concept of adding the long anticipated 5th park. Like the man said, “If you can dream it, you can do it.”

December 17th, 2018, 21:12 Posted By: wraggster
You may recall back in July we uncovered a few interesting new trademark filing from Universal that sounded very much like possible names for a new theme park. The names includes options for “Fantastic Worlds” as well as “Epic Universe”. Now the other day an interesting photo leaked out from some kind of presentation that put the name “Universal’s Fantastic Worlds” in large letters across one of the concept art pieces Universal has previously shown for Super Nintendo World. At the top of the screen, it also clearly says Universal Orlando Resort, so is it possible that Universal has settled upon this as the official name for the newest Orlando area theme park in development? The choice of graphics also seems to confirm the rumors that Super Nintendo World, once expected to go into the original Universal Studios Florida theme park, is being held on reserve for this new park instead when it appears in the US.
Of course until the official announcement comes, a lot can change of course, but until then, this gives us something to dream about.
