The opening of the Super Nintendo World amusement park has been delayed indefinitely while Japan continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic.
A record surge in infections prompted the Japanese government to declare a state of emergency in all major hubs, rather than just the Tokyo region as it had been before.
This includes the city of Osaka, prompting Universal Studios to postpone the launch of the Nintendo-themed section of its theme park, Bloomberg reports.
The opening was planned for February 4, having been delayed from its original plan of a summer launch to tie in with the Tokyo Olympics.
Bloomberg reports this has now been placed on indefinite hiatus, following government guidance to restrict non-essential travel and activities.
A new opening date will be selected when the state of emergency has lifted.

Nintendo has finally opened an official website for its theme park, which provides information about what to expect when the park opens next month. The Super Nintendo World Direct previously revealed that Super Nintendo World would feature both a Mario Kart and Yoshi ride, with the site going into a bit further detail about them. Yoshi's Adventure is a 5-minute ride where you go on a treasure hunt across the Mushroom Kingdom, in a 2-seater Yoshi car. Meanwhile, Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge has you "aim" Koopa shells in a race with Mario and Peach. This speedier ride comes with a height restriction of 107cm for children, and also lasts around 5 minutes.
For the first time, we also get details on how much Super Nintendo World will cost. A single-day Studio Pass retails for 7,800 yen, or $76 for children 12 or older, 5,400 yen or $53 for children ages 4-11, and a senior rate of 7,100 yen/$69 if you're over 65. A two-day pass is just under double the cost, with the children's rate set at 10,500 yen/$102, and the 12+ pass priced at 15,400 yen/$150.

While we know that Disney had previously confirmed that they will finally reopen one of their waterparks to guests on March 7, 2021, they were not ready to name which of the parks this would be. That has changed this week, with the official announcement on the website confirming that Blizzard Beach will be the waterpark to open first on March 7, 2021.
It is also worth mentioning that before COVID impacted everything, Blizzard Beach was hard at work replacing the entire slide for the Summit Plummet attraction with new fiberglass slide pieces back in December 2019. So when you visit, be sure to check this one out, as the brand new slide should be as smooth as glass. After such a long extended closure, I would imagine that there may be other smaller refurbishments worth noting across the park when it opens as well.

While the Camelot theme park in the UK has been closed since late 2012, many sections of the park have remained standing over the years that followed. This all changed this week as Theme Park Portal reports that full scale demolition of the remaining sections of Camelot have now begun. Apparently the site was purchased by a home builder who is now preparing the site for future redevelopment, through an exact plan has yet been been approved.
