I didn’t expect to wake up this morning to this bit of news, but the official statement is already posted to the Vekoma website confirming that Japan’s Sansei Technology has aquired Vekoma Rides in full as of today. As part of the agreement, Vekoma will continue to run as Vekoma, operating as an independent company, maintaining the same management team and locations that they currently have now, just adding Mr. Nakagawa (CEO of Sansei) to the Vekoma’s Supervisory Board.
I believe this is similar to the terms of how Sansei purchased S&S Power a few years ago. It is also interesting to note that since S&S purchased Arrow Dynamics back in 2002, and way before that Vekoma had signed some kind of technology license deal with Arrow Dynamics to use their same track design… then I guess this puts all those old Arrow patents back together under one owner.
With S&S and Vekoma to continue to operate as independent companies, I also have to wonder if there will be any kind of friendly technology or design cooperation between the two units going forward. Who knows what kind of strange new creation could come from that.

A fun video update from the site of the new coaster at Islands of Adventure has been posted by Midway Mayhem. Jump ahead to the 1:35 point to begin the look inside The Wizarding World where the cranes are mighty busy over the construction site. Eventually he gets a look inside the site and discovers a ton of low-level supports have been added to the various footers on-site.
As I mentioned back in July of last year, I'm still saying that this will be an Intamin made Motocoaster, bike and sidecar, themed as Hagrid's bike. As I also mentioned, this will be a mostly low to the ground, terrain style coaster as you journey through the Forbidden Forest and encounter who-knows-what along the way.

TouringCentralFlorida.com has done a bit of digging to try and figure out just what could be in the works for Busch Gardens Tampa in 2019. As they reported, the last major new attraction to open was Cobra's Curse way back in 2016, so they are due for something spectacular. Worth noting is the fact that SeaWorld Parks just filed trademark paperwork for three new attraction name ideas, all with a Tiger theme: Twisted Tiger, Uproar and Tigris.
While I know many fans out there are still waiting for Busch Gardens Tampa to finally build a Hypercoaster / Giga Coaster style ride after all these years... after all the Williamsburg park built Apollo's Chariot and SeaWorld Texas built Steel Eel way back in 1999 but for some reason it took until 2016 to build Mako at SeaWorld Orlando... meanwhile Tampa's guests have been waiting patiently for almost 20 years now. Unfortunately, if the rumors are true... the next coaster that could come to Tampa may just be another Premier Rides' clone of Tempesto... which is what SeaWorld San Diego is adding this year as Electric Eel.
The likely locations would be on the former Tidal Wave or Gwazi sites... both where long closed former thrill ride husks are still standing... offering a constant reminder to guests of their demise without being replaced. Plus the odd fact that the chain has cut the budget to the point where they no longer seem to want to even spend the funds needed to remove them... or at least not until they are good and ready with a replacement. (Quick check... the Jungala area rides are still closed right? Yep... still closed...)

Disneyland Paris has announced that The Lion King show will be coming to Disneyland Paris in 2019, going into The Chaparral Theater in Frontierland which is currently undergoing renovations for it. This isn't a copy of the show you may have seen at Walt Disney World, but rather will be a brand new musical production.

SeaWorld San Diego has confirmed that the new Electric Eel coaster will open for guests on May 12th.In a bit of bad news for SeaWorld San Diego, the local news reports that the park's attendance in 2017 dropped 14%, bringing in about 500,000 fewer guests than the previous year. This is much worse than the reported 5.5% drop experienced by the chain as a whole last year. Hopefully the just announced opening date for Electric Eel can bring about a bit of positive change for 2018.
